Japan porn firms threaten piracy lawsuit in Taiwan

TAIPEI (AFP) Eight Japanese porn video companies may sue cable channels, Internet and mobile phone operators in Taiwan over piracy they claim cost them millions of dollars, their lawyer said Wednesday.
“My clients suffered huge losses because they cannot collect royalties for the adult videos,” said lawyer Michael Chien, adding the estimated loss was at least one billion Taiwan dollars (31 million US) a year.
“Screening and selling the videos without authorisation is unacceptable. Taiwan should do more to protect intellectual property rights,” Chien said.
